JobFinder is a new application that aims to help people search for relevant jobs, submit their information, track their applications, and ultimately help job seekers find their dream jobs more efficiently. As a job seeker, I always feel like there are potential chances that the existing job searching platforms can improve their efficiency. So I hope to create a solution that provides users with a seamless and one-stop experience.

Job Matching and Recommendations: Developing an effective job-matching algorithm that connects job seekers with the most relevant opportunities can be challenging. The platform needs to analyze job seeker profiles and preferences, as well as job descriptions, to provide accurate and personalized recommendations. Balancing the need for precision in matching while avoiding overly narrow results can be a challenge.

Design Challenge

Mobile Optimization: With the increasing use of mobile devices, it is crucial to design a responsive and mobile-friendly platform. Ensuring that the platform functions well on smaller screens, loads quickly, and provides a seamless experience is essential for attracting and retaining users.

Quick Peek of Final Solutions

Design Process

Exploration—

  1. Current platforms are lacking the necessary tools and guidance to help them create an attractive resume or portfolio.

  2. Current platforms provide limited company insights, such as company culture, employee satisfaction, and salary data.

  3. The current search systems are not effective and efficient enough and the search results can not meet job seekers’ criteria.

  4. The “Fast apply” feature on current platforms is not efficient enough, Users still need lots of data entry to complete this process and it is challenging to complete on the mobile app

  5. Keep track of job applications: Job seekers will apply for hundreds of jobs when they are actively looking for jobs and lots of them find it really difficult to keep track of the application status after they apply.

Problems

  1. Provide job seekers with a user-friendly platform that includes easy-to-use tools and guidance to help them create a comprehensive and compelling profile.

  2. Provide job seekers with a platform that offers comprehensive company insights, such as company culture, employee satisfaction, and salary data, to help them make informed decisions about which companies to apply to.

  3. Develop a better recommendation and search system that can meet users’ criteria.

  4. Develop a "Fast Apply" feature that is intuitive and user-friendly, providing job seekers with the necessary information and customization options to ensure that they can send out high-quality and complete job applications quickly and efficiently.

  5. Develop a tracking system that allows job seekers to easily track their job applications, including status updates, feedback, and communication tools, to ensure that they stay on top of their job search and never miss out on an opportunity.

Design Goals

  1. Improved candidate experience: Many job seekers report frustration with the job search process, including a lack of response from employers and a confusing or time-consuming application process. A new job searching platform could focus on improving the overall candidate experience by streamlining the application process, providing timely feedback and status updates, and creating a user-friendly interface that’s easy to navigate.

  2. Better matching of job seekers to job openings: By leveraging data and machine learning algorithms, a new job searching platform could potentially improve the accuracy of matching job seekers with job openings that fit their skills, experience, and preferences. This could lead to higher job satisfaction for job seekers and better retention rates for employers.

Opportunities

Research & Understand—

  1. Identify common user behaviors and their processes when completing job applications

  2. Identify the pain points people experience during the job application process on other job boards or websites

  3. What most often prevents a user from successfully getting a job offer after many applications

Research Goals

My UX research process involved conducting interviews, gathering insights from user reviews, evaluating competitors’ products, and understanding the target user demographic. By combining these methods, I will obtain valuable information from both qualitative and quantitive research, so that my product can avoid all the limits of existing platforms and meet the needs of the target audience.

Research Methods

Qualitative Research—Conduct User Interviews

Affinity Mapping:

  • I like LinkedIn a lot because I can connect with people and see who is in my network.

  • I feel frustrated when I do not receive any response after submitting the applications because I don’t know if recruiters actually look at my resume.

  • I manually keep track of my job applications.

  • I would like to see more filters available when I search for jobs.

  • I hope I only need to put in all of my information once to apply to different jobs on different job boards.

  • I like the feature of being able to see the reviews and other detailed information about the companies I applied for.

  • I think internal referral is a very important and effective way to find a job.
